Thanks, I like it too.

I agree about the inter-fractional battles, I have seen a lot of that myself, in the blogosphere and the press. Thanks for the comment.

Like the new website.

I think they'll spending some time out in the wilderness until they can find something that resonates--as well as resolving inter-factional battles. There's been a lot of that lately out in the blogosphere too.

You make a good point -- in fact, I bet that if the policies, not the names, were written on the ballot, there would be a very, very interesting outcome.

Thanks for the comment.

citizens should vote on the issues, not the party. Republicans can save themselves if they look beyond their egos and to what is best for the country. The up and coming younger generation understands this so there is hope.

Of course, the post Reagan Democratic party did in fact switch farther center (and in a general notation, more right). They got heckled a bit, but it did end them up in a good place. Maybe opposite of that -- moving farther left to match popular opinion -- would be a good starting block for the GOP.

Oceanstar, you make a very good point. Although I wasn't alive anywhere near 1968, from my history recollections, the Republicans are in a similar place with Vietnam as the obvious comparison.

The activist base may be part of the problem as well. They are the main people, in my opinion that come of as the extremist bunch to the press.

Thanks for the comment.

You make a funny point. I wouldn't mind a Republican opposition by Gingrich at all, but that wasn't exactly my point about him anyways. I guess this time, he was right, though -- even though it was in fact about his own party's demise.

I agree, there was some smoldering all through the 1970s and is what led to Ronald Reagan. The Democrats have a lot of the blame for the shift away from liberalism. Their only answer to the voters on crime, welfare, taxes etc. was to call people racists. It got really old. They deserved to lose as much as the Republicans do now, in my opinion - and I'm a devout liberal.

I agree, it will probably take the Republicans a while to come to terms with what's happened.

Maybe, but Presidential elections dont reflect actual strength. They are elected more on a personal vote. The issues were generally with Democrats in the 1960's and 1970's, as evidenced by Nixon's fairly liberal economic decisions
